In coordination with the National Letter Carriers Association and the Utah Food Bank, we are happy to provide an opportunity for Mingle Utah members to mingle while volunteering for the annual NALC Stamp-Out Hunger Food Drive! This began as a pilot program in 1991 and is now conducted on this date in all 50 states. Some history on it is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamp_Out_Hunger_Food_Drive.
During this food drive, the mail carriers will be collecting food donations that have been left out by the mailboxes along their routes, and they will bring the donations back to the post offices in their mail trucks. We will be at the post office ready to unload the donations from the mail trucks as the carriers return and then sort them into large collection bins. Based on doing this last year, we can probably expect some fluctuation between high activity (after a truck returns) and lulls in the action allowing for plenty of mingling.
Currently, we are staffing the West Jordan Post Office location in two shifts:
12:30 pm to 3:30 pm
3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
At this time, it is fine to RSVP even if you're not completely sure if you can make it, as long as you change your RSVP later. Please be considerate of others and our partners who count on us, etc. As the date gets closer, I will work on a more formal sign-up to ensure we have full volunteer staffing as well as who can make which time slot, etc.
Please feel free to add yourself to the waitlist as well. If we have a lot of interest, I will see if we can staff volunteers at another location as well.
The following will be updated if different information becomes available, but for now please note the following for the day of the service project:
• Closed-toe shoes are required —NO flip-flops, sandals, or open-toed shoes permitted.
• Dress for the weather- you will be outside! (Letter carriers deliver mail rain or shine, so we will be there rain or shine! You may need a hat, sunscreen or raincoat.)
• Water bottles will be provided but you may want to bring snacks with you.
• You may need to walk around to the back of the post office to check-in.
